Seaside Harmony and Sunflower Summer, novels by Evangeline Kelley

From the series, Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn

Book Review by Trudi Cook

Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn is a new series by Guidepost publishers.  The first book, Seaside Harmony, introduced three sisters who have gathered on Nantucket Island to spend some time together and to remember their recently deceased mother.  One good memory they share is being taken to tea at the posh Misty Harbor Inn as teens.

Their mother always had a dream of running the Inn as a Bed and Breakfast, and enjoyed sharing her ideas with her daughters.  So when they see the Inn is now long closed and very run down, gardens overgrown and a faded “for sale” sign on the gate, Caroline, the      eldest and most venturesome sister has the idea to pool their inherited money and buy it.  The sisters react differently to the idea.   Gracie doesn’t want to leave the home she shared with her beloved and deceased husband, which is also close to her grandchildren.  Sam, the youngest daughter, is intrigued by the idea.

In this introductory book, the personalities of the sisters and their friends are revealed and eventually the decision is made.  All the sisters are intrigued by the rumors and legends that are told about the original owners of the home, as well as thrilled to discover a treasure trove of antiques as they tackle the enormous job of restoration.

Sunflower Summer takes up the story as the Inn opens and the sisters welcome their first season of guests.  Caroline and Gracie both face major life decisions, while Sam’s cooking just gets better and their pursuit of truth about the Inn’s history continues.

You will enjoy getting to know the various people of Misty Harbor Inn and Nantucket.  The questions they face in life are questions we might all have.  Sitting down with these books will provide a little time to relax and enjoy a time out from your busy day.

I’m looking forward to reading more in this series by Evangeline Kelley, the pen name for four authors who have teamed up for this project.  Some days, a little Nantucket holiday is just what a body needs!

I received a free copy of these books in exchange for my fair and honest review.
