Seussical Situations

11.12.20 | Family Life Mornings

There once was a girl who lived not far away
And she looked out her window on a fine sunny day.

But all was not sunny, at least not in her mind
For the people around her were mean and unkind.

Now this wasn’t news, people are often mean.
But the times that they weren’t seemed few and far between

This upset the girl, (who’s name we’ll call Sue)
She plopped down on her chair, “I don’t know what to do!”

“I just can’t believe how bad it has gotten!
It seems like my entire world has gone rotten!

The troubles that keep spreading, the fear and the dread,
Makes me want to give up and go back to bed.”

Sue sat in her chair, frustratedly stewing,
Angry, not knowing what she should be doing.

She let out a yell, something of which she was liable
But her eyes came to rest on her black leather Bible.

She reached out her hand and took it down from the shelf,
And it opened to Colossians, chapter three and verse twelve

God’s word told her gently through this letter of Paul,
The virtues to “put on” in spite of it all.

Kindness, humility, and self-control
Then patience and love that makes it a whole.

No matter the stressors, the hate and the shame,
As believers we need to love in Jesus’ Name.

Sue took this to heart and in that town they say
Her kindness grew up to three sizes that day.

And with that act of faith and humble submission,
The bad in that town went into remission.

So when you’re upset because others aren’t kind.
Instead be a light, and let your light shine.
