Inside Out 68: Love is a Cross
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
The Gospel in a nutshell. Read it again. This time more slowly, as if you’re not so familiar with it or you’re reading it for the very first time. Roll the words off your tongue. Embrace them in your mind, your heart.
Beautiful isn’t it? Simple to understand and yet magnificently, majestically filled with a depth that goes deeper the more you think about it. Forgiveness is a gift given, a gift to be accepted and costly beyond description. It sprang forth from a blood stained cross where God’s justice intersected with His mercy on a Friday that seemed worse than the worst Monday ever. An apparent dead end blew open the gates of heaven for those who believe.
In this podcast, pastor and author Max Lucado is back with us to walk through John 3:16 in his gifted way with words. Also, Dr. Erwin Lutzer from The Moody Church in Chicago shares some thoughts on the words of a dying Jesus to the thief on a nearby cross…
"Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43)
Finally, actor Bruce Marchiano, who played Jesus in the film “The Gospel of Matthew”, vividly shares with us what it was like to film the crucifixion scene. Lingering at the foot of the cross is to see love in blazing, blinding glory.
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:10)
Postscript: It may be Friday but Sunday is coming……
