Inside Out 22: The Power of a Whisper
1 Kings 19:11-12 (ESV)
"And he said, "Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord." And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.
And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper."
The God of the Universe speaks in a whisper?
This blows my mind.
How many of His whispers have I missed in my life as a follower of Christ?
Too often I’ve overlooked the quiet word because I’m positive His message will arrive in the midst of thunder and lighting.
And sometimes it does.
Most of the time it doesn’t.
That’s because He wants me to quiet my soul in His presence.
To have the guts to turn down the volume of my crazy life and get to know Him better.
“Lord, I need to hear from you today!” I say.
“Listen for my whisper,” He replies.
But just how do I do this?
Well known pastor Bill Hybels from Willow Creek Community Church has just written a book about this.
It’s called The Power of a Whisper.
I read the book, but I still had more questions.
Story of my life, so it appears.
I connected with Bill and we had a pretty lively conversation that ended up being a real blessing to me.
