Inside Out 12: Beauty
Beauty’s not about what you look like; it’s about who you are. What counts is what’s on the inside. We say this all the time. We teach our children that waist size, hairstyle and fullness of lips have no impact on what makes a person truly beautiful.
Truth be told, though, most of us focus considerable energy---and money---managing our appearance. Though we believe that our value rests completely in being creations of the Master Designer, we know that our appearance matters. Few of us would choose to don a burlap sack and work boots just to simplify our morning routines.
So how can we balance what we believe about internal---and external---beauty?
I’m not a member of the demographic with the most to win or lose in the discussion about beauty, but I know women who are. Houghton College junior Katie Pitts and Syracuse University junior Sarah Jane Capper “live in trenches,” negotiating the nuances of both the Christian and secular culture. Join us to hear their definitions and learn their perspectives on the pressures of beauty.
