Happy St. Patrick's Day

03.17.15 | Family Life Mornings

Saint Patrick was born to a wealthy family.  His dad was a deacon.  At 16 he was kidnapped by Irish raisers.  During his six years in captivity, he worked as a shepherd and found God.  After he was set free, he became a priest.  According to legend, Saint Patrick used the three-leaved shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity.  Tradition says that he died on March 17th and that's why we celebrate St. Patrick's Day today.  Did you know this holiday has even been celebrated on the International Space Station.  One astronaut played a flute and a tin whistle a few years back.   Two years ago, astronauts took photos of Ireland from space.  Here in the US, the north fountain at the White House has had green water flowing in it on every St. Patty's Day since 2009.

The Prayer of Saint Patrick may encourage you today:
May the strength of God pilot us.
May the power of God, preserve us.
May the wisdom of God, instruct us.
May the hand of God protect us.
May the way of God direct us.
May the shield of God defend us.
May the host of God guard us against the snares of evil and the temptations of the world.
May Christ be with us.
Christ before us.
Christ in us.
Christ over us.
May Thy salvation, O Lord, be always ours this day and forever more.
