Staycation: Pennsylvania Firefly Festival (June 22)

06.14.19 | Traci Lynn Woolsey

On June 22nd, visitors to the Pennsylvania Firefly Festival in Kellettville, PA will get a glimpse of a natural light show!

Scientists say over fifteen different species of fireflies will be roaming the Allegheny National Forest, during the Synchronous Firefly Season, which lasts into the second week of July.

Their “flashing” light patterns are part of their mating display.  Each species of firefly has a characteristic flash pattern that helps its male and female insects recognize each other.

Peg & Ken Butler say the special one-day event starts at noon and offers something for folks of all ages.
