Inside Out: The Widow in Your Life

03.27.19 | Martha Manikas-Foster

When a friend is widowed, most of us don’t know what to say. They’re grieving. We feel awkward. And, if statistics run true, many of us will just disappear from their lives.

And while it may be tempting to back away—or not talk about the loss when we do see these friends—our silence adds to their isolation.

“Our culture ignores grief, and sadness and death. That’s just our culture,” says Miriam Neff. “We move forward quickly, we don’t like sad, we don’t like uncomfortable. But Christ followers have a better option.”

Miriam Neff’s an author, world-traveler, mother, and grandmother. She’s also one of over eleven and a half million widows and almost three and a half million widowers in the United States. Through her books and her website Widow Connection she regularly informs, encourages, and equips widows.

In this Inside Out podcast she shares how to support and stay connected to the widows in our lives.

She says, “Think ‘Okay, how could I be God’s hands and feet or voice at this vulnerable time?’”

Join us for 16 minutes of practical advice and godly wisdom from the author of Not Alone: 11 Inspiring Stories of Courageous Widows from the Bible, From One Widow to Another: Conversations on the New You, and Where Do I Go from Here? Bold Living After Unwanted Change.
