Inside Out: Prepare to Tell

05.08.19 | Martha Manikas-Foster

Do you tell your friends and family about Jesus?

Most of us, if we feel uncomfortable or inadequate about evangelism, turn to a book or church training to help us prepare. And that’s good. But there’s more, according to Inside Out guest Kevin G. Harney, lead pastor of Shoreline Community Church in Monterey, CA and founder of Organic Outreach Ministries International. His recent Christianity Today article is titled: “Seven Surprising Ways to Prepare Yourself to Share the Gospel.

“Every Christian should be able to walk someone through the simple Gospel of the Good News of Jesus. We should be able to walk someone through a prayer to receive Jesus. We should be able to tell our story of how our life has been changed. And that’s extremely important,” he says.

But many Christians never move beyond this kind of training. That’s because, in addition to learning skills, Harney says we need to cultivate a closeness to Jesus and build genuine relationships with people far from Him.

“There’s a whole other way to get prepared, which involves getting ourselves ready for those moments when God opens the door, and how to be responsive to the Holy Spirit,” he says.
