Inside Out: Making the Most of a COVID Christmas

12.16.20 | Martha Manikas-Foster

If you’re feeling off balance by this unusual Christmas season, author Michelle Van Loon says you’re in good company.

“I think for many listening, they’re having a very different holiday, and so it’s okay to be sad, it’s okay to be disoriented, it’s okay to wait for better times,” she says.

Those feelings of wanting something better go right along with the church season of Advent, the weeks before Christmas when Christians focus on longing for the Messiah—as His people did before His Incarnation, and as we do today, waiting for His Second Coming.

“If we tap into the longing of a people for salvation, and healing, and restoration, our feelings fit this season, maybe better than the “holly jolly” does, and ever has,” she says.

Connecting with Advent can help us make the most of this Christmas, and so can serving others in COVID-compliant ways.
