Inside Out: Future Church

07.17.19 | Martha Manikas-Foster

Reaching young teens today is core to building the future church, but there’s a disconnect between the aging Church and the youngest generations, says author and veteran youth worker Ron Luce.

“In Christianity we know Jesus loves everybody, and we sort of try to reach everybody,” Luce says in our conversation, “and we reach very few people.” That’s why churches need to understand the importance of connecting with young teens—and get rid of old assumptions about how to do it.

“You don’t have to have a tattoo and a piercing and long hair--and think you’re in a rock band--to relate to a kid,” he says. “If you speak to their core, to their heart, to the struggles that they’re dealing with, then they will listen to you.”
