The beloved children’s show host, Fred Rogers, loved the number because it was a sort of code for “I love you” — with one letter in “I,” four in “love,” and three in “you.”

As part of a statewide mission to get Pennsylvanians to be better to each other, Governor Tom Wolf will reportedly declare May 23 — the 143rd day of the year — as “143 Day in Pennsylvania.” It’s being labeled as a day of statewide kindness, with a planned social media campaign.
