A Pennsylvania lawmaker has introduced a package of legislation that would require gun owners to keep firearms under lock and key.

Rep. Leslie Acosta (D-Philadelphia) said her legislation would prevent accidental shootings.

House Bill 1963 would require owners to place guns in a locked container or use a trigger, chamber or cable lock when the firearm is not under their direct control and a minor is in their home.

A companion measure, House Bill 1962, would require gun owners to take the same actions when living with violent criminals and others who cannot legally possess a firearm.

House Bill 1964 would require the protective measures anytime the gun is not under the owner’s direct control.

A fourth proposal, House Bill 1965, would require licensed gun dealers to provide locks with each gun purchase.
