New York Senator Chuck Schumer Wants The Fda To Investigate Sun Screen Claims

07.21.16 | Traci Lynn Woolsey

Chuck Schumer is calling on the FDA to test and confirm the SPF levels in sunscreens.  Schumer cited a recent "Consumer Reports" study that found 43% of sunscreens fail to meet the SPF factor listed on the label.
Manufacturers test their own products, but the findings are not confirmed by the government.
Schumer says some sunscreens claim an SPF of 50, but actually have an SPF of eight.
He's also calling on the FDA to set a standard for what rates as a "safe" sun protection factor.
