In his 2021 State of the State Address, Governor Andrew Cuomo says he intends to use legalizing recreational pot to pad the state coffers.

The executive insists, "this will raise revenue and will end the over-criminalization of this product."

Luke Niforatos with Smart Approaches to Marijuana tells Family Life legalizing weed would be similar to legalized spirits and "smokes." He says Colorado loses $10 to $15 in social costs for every dollar gained in alcohol and tobacco taxes.

Niforatos also notes less than four percent of of the marijuana industry is owned by minorities across the nation.

The governor wants to expand online sports betting as well.

Pro-family groups fear that'll create a whole new generation of gambling addicts.
