Better Not Take A Selfie If Youre At The Ballot Box In New York

It's against the law.

There's a new federal lawsuit against New York's law.

It comes just a few days after singer Justin Timberlake posted a selfie while voting early in Tennessee. In Tennessee, New York, and a dozen other states, you could be charged with a misdemeanor if you take a photo of your ballot.  Those states are named in this lawsuit.

Some argue the law protects voters from being pressured to prove who they voted for. They say it also affects voter privacy. But New York election officials say sharing votes on social media can increase participation in voting.

Federal courts have already struck down ballot selfie laws in three states saying they violate free speech.

Lawyers for the state board of elections are reviewing the lawsuit in New York.
