The state's top fiscal watchdog, Tom Dinapoli says the energy industry failed on six occasions over the past 12 months to report pipeline problems.

Dinalopli is calling on the Public Service Commission to ramp up its monitoring of the state's 92,000 miles of pipeline, and to better verify the qualifications of the operators who run them.

Since 1995, New York has had nearly 200 pipeline incidents resulting in 23 deaths and $77 million in property damage.
