A Divide New York Rally Happens This Saturday In Albion Orleans County

Activists want to split the upstate from the downstate, arguing the state legislature in Albany is too dominated by New York City interests.

The "Divide New York" caucus tells WGRZ-TV they want to create two autonomous regions, not two separate states. That would take an act of Congress.

The dividing line would be just North of New York City in Westchester and Rockland counties.

A spokeswoman for the group says the way things are going just "aint" working.

Governor Cuomo dismisses the effort as being "miniscule" and thinks most New Yorkers like the state the way it is.

Next year, voters will decide whether or not to have a convention to re-write the state constitution, which is the only way the "Divide New York" effort, will ever get off the ground.  Even then, it's a long shot, say the experts.
