Every February in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, science meets folklore in a Ground Hog Day ritual that began in the 1800s and achieved celluloid immortality in a 1993 movie. Because in 2008 February 2nd falls on a weekend day, as many as 30,000 visitors are expected for the celebration in this Pennsylvania borough that on any other day of the year is home to only 6,000.
