Inside Out 97: Experience God As Your Provider
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Do you believe that? Is your faith being pushed to the limit? God is never late in meeting our needs, but he sure does pass up a lot of good opportunities to be early! Even the delays are a part of his provision.
I love a story out of the life of the famous Bible teacher Harry Ironside. Many years ago he was preaching in various towns and stayed a little longer in one place because he felt God was calling him to do that.
The problem? He ran out of money. So he prayed for the Lord to provide. He didn’t tell anyone about his situation because He wanted to see God show up in his life. Night fell. No money for supper. No money for a motel room. He slept outside.
By morning he was a bit confused.
“Lord... I trusted you to provide. What’s up?”
About an hour later he ran into the pastor of a church where he had preached a few days earlier. The pastor handed him a letter sent to Ironside in care of the church. It was from a supporter and provided enough cash for the rest of his stay there plus the train ride back.
It wasn’t, “Wow… Thank you Lord! But you know... I sure could have used the cash a day earlier!”
This is the way he processed the divine delay, with a hint of humor, “Well... I guess Lord you figured what I really needed most last night was a nice starving!” And I might add... a nice campout!
God provided like He always does. Faith was stretched, needs were met, all for His glory and Harry’s good. It just didn’t happen in the expected way at the expected time.
The plan is always bigger than me. Makes for an exciting life, doesn’t it?
The pages of Scripture are filled with details of a God who provides for his people.
I challenge you as you go though the Bible to look for the God who provides, from food, to strength, to guidance, to money, to salvation.
It’s who He is.
*So Abraham called the name of that place, "The Lord will provide"; as it is said to this day, "On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided." (Genesis 22:14)
*“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
