FLN News / Cutting Early Childhood Education Funding in NY

05.12.09 | Ed Thomas

A national think-tank is criticizing New York's decision to cut early childhood education funding. The "Pew Centers for the States" lists New York as one of just five states in the nation that chose to cut contributions to those programs, despite funds for early education being available in federal stimulus money. Spokeswoman Kathy Patterson says the governor and the legislature's decision to shrink the Pre-K Universal Fund by 75 million dollars also goes against a trend where a majority of states are adding money to such programs.

FLN's Ed Thomas seaks with Kathy to hear what her organization and other states are trying, and what could be changed for the better in New York. For more information, check out pewcenteronthestates.org.
