Youth Football May Be Banned In New York State

Lawmakers in New York are considering a proposal to limit youth football across the state. Assemblyman Michael Benedetto introduced a bill last week to prohibit all kids in the state under 11 years old from playing. He said he's concerned about young children suffering concussions during practices and games. Children as young as 5 can play in New York. Supporters say thousands of kids are injured each year; opponents say the numbers are small compared to the number of kids playing. The bill already has co-sponsors and may be introduced in the state Senate, too.
