Western Pa Superintendant Yanks Prayers Off His Blog

An American Civil Liberties Union attorney says a western Pennsylvania school superintendent has removed references to prayer from his blog on a district web site after the agency said a former teacher complained. Lakeview School District Superintendent Frank McClard has not commented on the issue, but an attorney for the district, Timothy McNickle, says the ACLU's claims remain under investigation. The ACLU sent a letter in August saying it had received complaints that McClard encouraged prayer, offered prayers at mandatory in-service days for teachers and established a prayer group that meets before school. ACLU attorney Sara Rose contends the Constitution is violated if schools endorse, or appear to endorse, such practices.
