Venus Crosses The Sun Today Wont Happen Again For 105 Years

06.05.12 | Sarah Harnisch

The planet Venus will take center stage in a rare astronomical event today. It's an event that won't happen again until 2117. Venus will be visible as a black dot-- moving across the face of the sun. Curator Laura Danly of L.A.'s Griffith Observatory says it won't take place again until 2117. She says "it happened in 2004, and again in 2012, but now we have to wait 105 years for the next one, then eight years later, there will be another." N.A.S.A. plans to live-stream the entire event at 5:30 p.m. eastern time.  You can watch it by going here.
