Varsity Sports Schedules To Be Reduced In Ny

There won't be quite as many high school sports varsity games, under cost-cutting moves adopted by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. The football schedule has been cut, but it will only affect teams that don't qualify for sectionals that play in "crossover" games.

Under the new rules, schools can opt out of the second crossover game. The maximum number of regular season games in basketball has been cut from 20 to 18. Baseball, softball, ice hockey, and volleyball will be reduced to 20 from 24. Soccer's maximum is now 16, down two.
