The U.S. Embassy in Kingston, Jamaica remains closed today as trouble continues in paradise, with reports of at least 31 dead in ongoing violence there. Almost all of the victims were civilians. Police Director of Communications Karl Angell says most of the deaths were in a crowded slum area of West Kingston known as Tivoli Gardens. The violence erupted several days ago when the Jamaican government took steps to extradite an alleged drug kingpin to the U.S. Heavily-armed police and soldiers battled past barricades as they swarmed the Tivoli Gardens area yesterday, hoping to finally catch up with reputed drug lord Christopher "Dudus" Coke. Authorities reported no luck in finding the wanted man.
