New Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says the government is cautiously optimistic that the swine flu is more mild than initially believed. During a speech in Atlanta, her first since becoming health secretary, the former governor of Kansas said that the U.S. is taking a positive outlook that what is being seen now is a much milder virus than the initial cases that struck Mexico.

In another development, the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization has given the green light to eating pork and pork products. The agency says the risk that pork meat could carry the influenza virus is "totally negligible." Up to 20 countries have banned imports of pork and other meat due to fears of an outbreak of the swine flu virus.
