Upstate Ny Crisis Pregnancy Center Is Victim Of Phone Scam

A crisis pregnancy center in upstate New York says it's the victim of a fraudulent sweepstake pitch. A bogus caller, pretending to work with the Pregnancy Resource Center of the Valleys, based in Bath, has called at least one person-- saying the center is trying to raise 25-thousand-dollars. The caller, who identifies herself as "Crystal"-- asks for a credit card number. Executive Director Marcia Hall said "we have never in our history done a 25-thousand-dollar sweepstakes. We also don't usually call our donors personally on the phone to request personal information. But if we do, we will always start with a letter first if we're doing some kind of phone call." The center helps abortion-vulnerable women in Alleghany, Steuben, and Chemung counties.
