Upstate New Yorkers May Not Have To Pick Up The Tab For Sandy
11.02.12 |
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo estimated the cost to fix all the damage from Hurricane Sandy on Long Island could top 6 billion dollars. That's a tab upstaters may not have to pick up. On Wednesday, President Obama made a committment to pay for 100 percent of the costs associated with the mighty hurricane all the damage from the storm, and the costs of cleanup from now through November 9th. U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer called it a "good first step." There is some question as to whether or not FEMA can handle the task, though. They started the fiscal year a month ago with just 3.6 billion dollars, and there have already been 36-thousand requests for help along the eastern seaboard. 384-thousand people in Pennsylvania still have no power, 80-thousand have no power in New York, and the death toll for the Keystone State is now up to 12.
