Ultimate fighting champions are in New York state to promote the sport here. Competitors Uriah Hall and Ryan LaFlare say they want to be able to practice their occupation in their home state of New York. They joined gym owners and other supporters at a series of news conferences Wednesday and urged the state Assembly to legalize mixed martial arts competitions in New York. Starting today, they'll hold the same events across the state, in places like Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo. The state Senate has passed legislation to legalize and regulate the sport, but the Assembly has blocked the legalization for seven years.
