(Detroit, MI)  --  Toyota is set to order a worldwide recall of 270 thousand cars to fix an engine problem that could cause the vehicles to stall.  Included in this recall -- seven Lexus sedan models and the Toyota Crown sedan.  One of the Lexus models and the Crown are not sold in the United States.  Company spokesman Paul Nolasco is quoted in the "New York Times," saying a defective engine part in the affected vehicles could cause poor or unstable idling and cause the engine to stall.  Lexus said Thursday about 137 thousand of its vehicles in the U.S. might have V-6 or V-8 engines with faulty valve springs and, "in extremely rare instances, the engine may stop while the vehicle is in operation."

Since last September, Toyota has been plagued by a safety crisis that has led to the recall of more than ten million vehicles worldwide, mostly for potential unintended acceleration problems.  About seven-point-three million vehicles have been recalled in the United States.
