Toyota Sales President Talks About Accelerator Pedal Fix
02.01.10 |
(Torrance, CA) -- Toyota will begin repairing faulty accelerator pedals starting this week on more than two-million of its recalled vehicles. Jim Lentz, president and chief operating officer of Toyota Motor Sales USA, says Toyota dealers nationwide will be offering longer service hours to get people's vehicles involved in the pedal recall fixed as soon as possible.
Toyota engineers have devised a way to reinforce the pedal system and eliminate the added friction that caused accelerator pedals to stick on rare occasions. The problem centers on a friction device that helps make the pedal steady and stable.
Meanwhile, Production lines will be humming again at Toyota. The company says it will resume production of eight vehicle models on February 8th. In an e-mail, Toyota says production can begin anew because there is now an adequate supply of parts. The automaker announced the recall of more than two-million vehicles last week and said it would halt production of models including Camry and Corolla sedans.
