Toyota Chief To Head New Quality Control Task Force
02.17.10 |
Toyota Motor Corp's president will lead a new quality control task force to try and put the Japanese carmaker back on top globally. Akio Toyoda held his third press conference in less than two weeks in Tokyo today as the world's largest carmaker scrambles to manage the recall of eight-and-a-half million vehicles. Toyoda also said he won't be appearing at Congressional hearings slated for February 24th. He did promise that Toyota's U.S. executives would be on hand to answer lawmaker's questions.
Toyota announced Tuesday that it's halting production at two U.S. plants. That news comes on the heels of Toyota's earlier decision to halt sales of eight models including bestsellers the Camry and the Corolla. The problem stems from sticky gas pedals, while hybrids such as the Prius are having braking problems that require a software upgrade.
