Today is expected to be one of the biggest travel days of the year as millions visit friends and family for Thanksgiving. Triple-A predicts 38-point-four-million Americans will travel at least 50 miles away from their home, an increase of one-point-four-percent from last year. About 86-percent will drive, while just six-percent plan to fly. For those heading to the airport, it's recommended arriving at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight.

The New York Port Authority says they expect nearly three-and-a-half million travelers to pass through one of the region's airports, bridges or tunnels on the way to their destination over the four-day weekend. Triple-A Texas estimates that three-point-three-million Texans will travel over the Thanksgiving holiday this year.

Nationwide, Triple-A says air travel during Thanksgiving has tumbled 62-percent since 2000. Higher ticket prices, flight delays and reduced capacity are blamed on the severe downturn in air travel overall.
