Voters in three states are hitting the polls for primary elections today. In Alabama, Representative Artur Davis is looking to become the state's first African-American Democratic nominee for the governor's race. Davis is facing off against Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks for the nomination. Seven candidates are seeking the GOP nomination. In New Mexico, Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish is running unopposed for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Five Republicans are vying for the nomination. Governor Bill Richardson is prevented from running due to term limits.

In Mississippi, Republican Angela McGlowan is hoping to unseat conservative Democratic congressman Travis Childers, who has held the office for two years. McGlowan has reportedly aligned herself with the conservative Tea Party movement. Voters in Alabama will also pick nominees for the U.S. House. Representative Parker Griffith faces a challenge from two fellow Republicans. Both have labeled him a flip-flopper after he switched sides and became a Republican last year.
