Many kids in Pennsylvania have already started school. But in New York, tens of thousands of kids go back on Wednesday, and tomorrow is the first day back for teachers. Teachers will use the extra conference day to learn about the annual Professional Performance review, a state mandate that took effect this year and links portions of their job review to student performance. They'll also catch up on the "Dignity For All Students Act", a state mandated policy that prohibits harrasment and discrimination on school grounds. During the past year, schools have scrambled to meet the requirements of that new act. They'll feel the full force of for the first time this fall.
