Penn State's annual dance marathon raised 7.5 million dollars this weekend. Despite the recession, the final dollar amount was almost 900 thousand dollars more than last year's figure. The 46-hour competition concluded Sunday afternoon.

More than 700 dancers from Penn State campuses pledged not to sit or sleep for the entire weekend in an effort to raise money for pediatric cancer research. The dance-a-thon is the largest student-run philanthropy movement in the world. Nearly 60 million dollars has been raised in its 30 year history.
