The apple harvest in New York was sliced in half this year. Orchards across the state are warning that a poor crop is causing them to run out of their supply earlier then usual this season. The state Apple Association said this year's harvest produced 14 million bushels, less then half of the 29 million bushels produced last year. Orchards in the fingerlakes were hardest hit in the state, some orchards there lost 90 percent of their crop. New York is the second largest apple producer in the nation behind Washington state. Two other large apple states-- Michigan and Ohio-- lost 90 percent of their crop this year, which means apple prices will likely be high through the winter in grocery stores.
