The Comment Period On Hydrofracking In Ny Is Over What Happens Now
01.12.12 |
At midnight January 11th, the comment period to weigh in on gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale in New York came to an end. What happens now? A team of 56 D.E.C. staffers will pore over some 30-thousand comments, and will reply to some, and will make changes to their draft report because of others. D.E.C. Commissioner Joe Martens say there has been an unprecedented responce to the issue. The responces included a 500-page list of issues raised by the Natural Resources Defense Council, as well as thousands of pro-gas responces. The D.E.C. is expected to decide sometime this year if hydrofracking will be allowed in New York.
