Terrorist Watch List Reaches One Million Names

The U.S. government's terrorist watch list has now reached one million entries. "USA Today" reports the figure, released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, represents a 32-percent increase since this time in 2007.

The increase is in spite of a major purge last year that removed 33-thousand names. Those removed had either been cleared by investigations or the information was simply found to be outdated.

The one million mark does not represent individuals but are just entries. Some people are listed under multiple names. The Transportation Security Administration has said in the past that about 95-percent of the names on the terrorist watch list are foreigners.

The other five-percent on the list are Americans who are stopped and questioned at airports and borders. Even a traffic citation can produce extra scrutiny.
