Gov. Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders continue to negotiate as the state budget deadline looms on April 1.

Legislative leaders want to add another half billion dollars in spending to the budget, half of which would fund education.

The governor and legislative leaders met twice at the Capitol behind closed doors on Thursday. Leaders left the meeting optimistic they could meet the deadline, but offered no specifics on any emerging deals.

Senate co-leader Jeff Klein said they continue to talk about property tax relief, help for renters, universal pre-kindergarten and campaign finance reform.

Leaders meetings are more frequent as the deadline for the $140 billion fiscal spending plan comes closer.
