There's a saying that those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it, and apparently a lot of young people these days not only cannot remember, but they cannot learn it either. A new national assessment finds that less than a fourth of students are proficient in U.S. history, including everything from the American Revolution, the Civil War, and even current events. Just 20% of 4th graders, 17% of 8th graders, and 12% of high school seniors scored at a level showing solid academic performance in U.S. history.
