(Boulder, CO)  --  A new study finds showerheads are spewing out a face full of pathogens.  The study conducted by the University of Colorado reveals a 30-percent spike in high levels of a type of bacterium that's linked to pulmonary disease.

Researchers tested 50 showerheads in nine large cities in seven states.  They found that the showerhead acts like an aerosol spray, allowing for easy inhalation of pathogen-filled drops.  Researchers suggest using all-metal showerheads with filters or taking baths instead.

The study is part of a project that examines microbiology in the human environment.
