(Washington, DC)  --  Tea Party supporters may have much in common with those who are aligned with the religious right.  A Public Religion Research Institute study reveals Tea Party backers were more likely to get behind government restrictions on same-sex marriage and other issues.  Those polled who identify with the Tea Party were not as likely as the general population to be pro-choice.  They were also less likely to back immigration reform measures that would permit those in the United States illegally to become citizens.  Almost half of the Tea Party backers surveyed think officials don't pay sufficient attention to religion and say they believe the Bible is the word of God.
