Strike Forces Spirit Airlines To Cancel Flights Through Tuesday

Passengers of Spirit Airlines will be stuck on the ground at least through Tuesday as a pilots' strike continues. The Miramar, Florida-based carrier cancelled all of its flights through then and could extend those cancellations if no new agreement is reached. No new contract talks have been scheduled as both sides dig in and solidify their positions. The pilots say they make less than their counterparts at other companies but the airline says it can't afford huge pay hikes during these economic times. Spirit is one of the larger airlines at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Stranded passengers have been having a tough time trying to re-book their flights since there aren't many vacant seats and those that are available can be very expensive.
