Specter Faces Public Fire On Health Care

One of Washington's newest Democrats, Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, took one for the team Tuesday at a pair of contentious town hall meetings over the proposed health-care overhaul. Specter was booed and taunted at a stop in Lebanon and another one later in the day in Lewisburg. Questioners accused Specter, President Obama and other Democrats of forcing a government takeover of health care. Last week, crowds disrupted a similar meeting in Philadelphia that was hosted by Specter and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Specter told reporters Tuesday it's difficult to explain the Democrats' plans without a specific bill to defend. The Senate doesn't have specific legislation yet, although the House has a version pending.
