Senators Kirstin Gillibrand and Charles Schumer of New York are asking President Obama to direct any unwanted funds from the economic recovery package to the Empire State. In their letter, the senators from New York point out that any stimulus money left on the table would be put to good use, investing in education and new infrastructure, such as health care IT and high speed rail.

Some Republican governors, including Mark Sanford of South Carolina, Rick Perry of Texas, and Sarah Palin of Alaska, have discussed plans to refuse economic recovery money for their states.
