Senator Monserrate Re Joins Democratic Side In Senate
06.15.09 |
State Senator Hiram Monserrate of Queens, who lead a coup in the Senate last week in Albany by deciding to caucus with Republicans, has flipped back to the Democratic side of the aisle. Monserrate confirmed his intentions this morning.
The other defector in last week's shake up in Albany, Pedro Espada, says he will remain on the Republican side as he attempts to form new leadership in government. Monserrate says he will still vote for Espada to be the new leader in the Senate.
A judge in Albany is expected to rule today as to whether the new coalition government will be allowed to go forward or not. Democrats argue the "coup" was illegal and that they still control the Senate.
