Senate Votes Against Stripping Planned Parenthood Of Federal Taxpayer Cash
04.15.11 |
A victory and a loss for the pro-life community yesterday-- the U.S. House voted to defund Planned Parenthood, while the Senate voted to keep their funding.
The 42-to-58 vote came just hours after the House stripped the national abortion clinic's federal Title X dollars. Planned Parenthood says it provides 4-million tests and treatments for sexually transmitted infections, 1-million cervical cancer screenings and 830,000 breast exams each year. Those statistics have drawn advocates and supporters to its side. But Penny Nance, the CEO of Concerned Women for America, says 98 percent of pregnant women who receive services at a Planned Parenthood clinic, receive abortions. Former Colorado congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave says there is still time to sway lawmakers. She says it means pro-lifers need to be more committed then abortion advocates-- and tell legislators it's not ok for our tax dollars to pay for abortions. She says lawmakers can still call hearings, do investigative work, and see more of what goes on inside of Planned Parenthood clinics. She is urging Americans to contact their elected representatives and ask them to vote to investigate Planned Parenthood.
