The Pennsylvania Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote today on an amendment to the state's marriage law. State Senator John Eichelberger of Blair County is sponsoring the legislation that would add a clarifying statement to the 1996 law. If the amendment passes, the state constitution would read, quote, "Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid and recognized as a marriage in this Commonwealth." Opponents argue the proposal is discriminatory and would make Pennsylvania less attractive to young people who generally favor gay-rights.
